Is Shershaah on Amazon Prime One of the Best War Films Made?

This new movie on Amazon Prime Video has been talked about quite a bit since its initial release on the OTT platform. Based on the Kargil War and focusing on Captain Vikram Batras life, Shershaah gives us a glimpse of what it is like for the Indian army soldiers to carry out operations that could lead to them ultimately losing their lives.

This historical conflict, fought at a dizzying altitude of 17,000 feet, had a lot on the line. Pakistani forces posing as Kashmiri militants invaded the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) and the situation led to a full-fledged war thereafter. However, this movie does not strictly base itself on Captain Batra’s professional life, it also portrays his personal life- his girlfriend turned fiancée – Dimple Cheema.

Shershaah Release Date on Amazon Prime: 12 August 2021

Shershaah Movie Review

The main character is played by the famous Siddharth Malhotra and we see him carry the movie on his shoulders, so to speak. However, his romantic interest in the film, played by Kiara Advani, does not have enough scope due to the script, to showcase her acting skills in a  better range apart from being a dedicated lover of the main character. Every single song track in this movie is well-made and has been received by the audience very well but the heaviness of the content cannot be liberated with a few romantic tracks in between but does end up being a distraction.

Captain Sanjeev Jamwal is played by Shiv Pandit, who is stern on the surface but emotional on the inside. Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia, played by Nikitin Dheer, and Col. Yogesh Kumar Joshi, played by Shataf Figar, are both remarkable. The direction of the movie is commendable, especially the war scenes- we can safely conclude that  Vishnu Varadhan’s debut in Bollywood after a series of South Indian films is a force to be reckoned with. The script by Sandeep Srivastava is somewhat slow-paced and could have been better knit so much so that the editing couldn’t cover up for it.

This film brought together by Dharma productions and Kaash Entertainment had given Siddharth Malhotra a platform to shine. Notwithstanding, a better-formulated screenplay may have been appropriate for a war hero like Captain Vikram Batra.

The movie actively portrays their center theme as patriotism and humanism but we do see splashes of romance in parts- to give it an edge over usual war films, which focus on the gory details of a battlefield more than the personal lives of our warriors who dedicate their lives to keep our country safe.

Shershaah movie rating IMDB

8.9/10

So, this was Shershaah movie review. We can conclude by stating that the movie is an overall tearjerker for most viewers and is a definite recommendation for anyone looking for warm films made in Bollywood.
